Four-wheel drives carry components a passenger car does not: transfer cases, front and rear differentials, and a driveline that takes real load. Vehicles used off road or for towing need those inspected on a shorter interval than the handbook assumes.
Whine or vibration from the driveline at speed
Regular towing above half the rated capacity
Recent beach, sand or river-crossing use
Full engine service to schedule
Front and rear differential oil checked or replaced
Transfer case fluid inspected
Driveline, CV boots and universal joints inspected
Suspension inspection under load
Brake inspection allowing for towing use
Underbody check for damage after off-road use
Larger oil capacities and the extra driveline items put this above a passenger-car service. Towing and off-road use bring some items forward.
We quote before starting. If the job changes once the car is on the hoist, we call you rather than adding it to the invoice.
