Overheating causes expensive damage quickly. A cooling fault that costs a few hundred dollars to fix becomes a head gasket if you keep driving on it. If the temperature gauge is climbing, stop and call.
Temperature gauge reading higher than usual
Sweet smell or steam from the engine bay
Coolant puddle under the front of the car
Heater blowing cold when the engine is warm
Cooling system pressure test to locate leaks
Radiator and condenser inspection
Water pump inspection for bearing play and weeping
Thermostat operation tested
Hoses and clamps inspected for perishing
Cooling fan and fan clutch operation checked
Coolant drained, flushed and refilled to specification
Depends on which component failed and how accessible it is. Some water pumps sit behind the timing cover, which adds labour.
We quote before starting. If the job changes once the car is on the hoist, we call you rather than adding it to the invoice.
